Shropshire Victorious in Three Counties Nine Try Thriller

Worcester & Hereford took on Shropshire on Wednesday night in the first game of this year’s Three Counties Championship.

The game was originally scheduled to be at Worcester RFC but had to be switched at the last minute as their pitches were flooded and Kidderminster Carolians very kindly agreed to host it with a mere 8 hours notice!

Shropshire put in a very strong performance throughout based on their dominant scrum platform and led at half time 10-17 which by 70 minutes had increased to 15-30.

The last crazy 10 minutes belied this Shropshire dominance as the home side stormed into life and ran in 3 tries sandwiching a sole Shropshire reply which produced a final scoreline of 36-37 and two bonus points for W&H, five for Shropshire!

W&H try scorers were two for winger Will Bugg (Evesham), one for vice-captain Russ Brown (Droitwich), Joey Roberts (Droitwich) and Ashley Icke (Evesham), a penalty and four conversions by centre Luke Fenton (Old Halesonians), with the coaches Man of the Match award going to captain Chris Pinner (Kidderminster Carolians).

Shropshire try scorers were Simon Price (Bridgnorth), Liam Deery (Shrewsbury), Jack Bevan (Shrewsbury) and captain Dave Hartshorne (Newport) with a penalty and three conversions for Rhys Haarhy (Bournville)

Next up Greater Birmingham host Worcester & Hereford on Wednesday 5th February at Woodrush RFC where the away team will be seeking revenge for last year’s final defeat as GB secured the John Hunt Shield for the first time in eighteen years!
